Protecting people, infrastructure and facilities from hazards is our mission. Our in-house development department cooperates with leading international testing institutes. With more than 450 patents and certificates worldwide, we guarantee first-hand tested safety with a good dose of pride. We protect people, values and the environment.
ITER/Look inside Tokamak
The ITER (Latin for the way) project is one of the most ambitious energy projects in the world today. In southern France, 35 nations are working together to build the world's largest tokamak, a magnetic fusion facility designed to prove the feasibility of fusion as a large-scale, carbon-free energy source based on the same principle that powers our sun and stars.
The total of fifty high-security gates supplied by SOMMER (order volume approx. € 15m) are located in a strong magnetic field where they protect against radioactive radiation and heat. They are airtight and watertight and, despite being easy to operate, are designed to be particularly durable and low-maintenance. 46 SOMMER heavy nuclear gates surround the tokamak on three levels, each closing off an access cell (port cell). Gate weights of about 72 tonnes are achieved.

Detention room doors Frankfurt
The new building for the Frankfurt am Main I prison, designed by the general planner Plan2 Architekten, provides space for around 500 prisoners, an infirmary, a transport department and the administration area.
The SOMMER HRT detention room doors were used throughout the entire accommodation building. The doors are equipped with flaps and inspection windows with flaps.

High School Ramstein
The new building of Ramstein High School, designed by Dorsch International Consultants, provides space for about 1,100 students in grades 9 to 12. The building complies with the guidelines for 21st century educational facilities developed by DoDEA (Department of Education, US Department of Defense).
The building envelope with SOMMER security façades and windows meets the requirements of the US Department of Defense and has been certified LEED Silver. Our customers benefit from the fact that tested and experienced personnel are used, from sales to the project team to installation - which is reflected not least in the access rights of our employees to, for example, facilities of the US armed forces.

Doors from SOMMER offer reliable protection against floods. From driving rain tightness, flood resistance to high-density construction, we manufacture tested doors/gates according to customer requirements.
Calculation, simulation, testing
Building protection in particularly sensitive areas also includes protection against loads resulting from earthquakes. The earthquake-proof constructions correspond to the specified response spectra or acceleration values.
Radiation protection, shielding, concrete, lead, steel
Protection against radiation risks and shielding against the most diverse types of radiation and requirements are applicable in our product portfolio for various constructions. The shielding is realised as required with concrete, steel or lead or combinations of different materials.
We have comprehensive, tested solutions available for these and other standards:
DIN EN ISO 140/717, DIN 4109, from 25-52 dB or according to customer specifications.
We have comprehensive, tested solutions for these and other standards:

Fire protection requirements are standard in door construction. Our strength lies in the requirements beyond the standard - both nationally and internationally. Our procedural standardisation of customer-specific approval in individual cases, in cooperation with laboratories and testing institutes, enables prompt, sustainable and reliable solutions.
We have comprehensive, tested solutions for these and other standards:
DIN 18095, EN 1634-3 - SA, S200
Smoke protection saves lives and is to be taken just as seriously as fire protection in the building industry. The barrier function of our components against the spread of toxic smoke gases in buildings, even under the most difficult conditions, makes all the difference.
We have comprehensive, tested solutions for these and other standards:
DIN EN 1026, DIN EN 12207, DIN EN 12426
Object-specific special requirements with high test pressures and low leakage values. All common airtightness classes of the building industry are combined with other requirements and can be fulfilled with test pressures of up to 5,000 Pa. Of course, we also enable project-specific special solutions for air tightness in routine cooperation with renowned testing institutes.
We have comprehensive, tested solutions available for these and other standards:
EN 13124, EN 13123, object-specific special requirements, explosion protection, resistance to tornado and tornado-generated missiles
Pressure waves triggered by explosives or accidents require correspondingly resistant components. Depending on the requirements, tests are carried out in field trials, shock tubes and/or with dynamic simulation. Different pressure and impact durations as a result of detonation and deflagration can be realised.
We have comprehensive, tested solutions for these and other standards:
Aircraft impact, paraffin tightness, project-specific impact loads
The protection against the effects of an aircraft impact on a building or against the direct impact of aircraft parts is proven in calculations or simulations, depending on the requirements.
We have comprehensive, tested solutions for these and other standards:
