Buildings of public institutions are increasingly targets of vandalism, crime or terrorist attacks. In order to protect people, art treasures and buildings from the effects of attacks, we work together with architects, planners, project developers and building owners to develop viable solutions for securing the entire building envelope.
Coordinated with the colour concept of the architects Kleihues + Schuwerk, SOMMER developed project-specific solutions for the building envelope together with the planners. The façade with large glass panes and the glass roof in bronze, manufactured in the SOMMER MULTITHERM® system, supplemented by fire protection safety doors and an oversized roof hatch for inserting large-format exhibits, give one of the leading cultural centres in Europe an unmistakable face.
The constructions used protect against burglary and unauthorised entry, and in some cases against the ingress of floodwater, without losing the architect's design idea. The museum was designed as a clean-cut, solid-looking building that blends respectfully into its surroundings.
Thanks to our many years of experience in the production of façades, multifunctional solutions were also found for the Oslo National Museum. Already during the pre-qualification for the tender, SOMMER was able to prove the resilience of the products through certificates and thus become a reliable partner for the general contractor AFGruppen. With our facades and security facades, we combine the architectural requirements of aesthetics and functionality with the protection of the building.
Our façades and glass roofs protect against burglary up to resistance class RC5, bullets up to class FB7 or the effects of explosions up to 100 kg TNT - individually or in combination. The SOMMER O∙S∙T® object security doors and the SOMMER B∙S∙T® fire protection doors are tested and certified according to national and international standards. They meet the requirements of smoke and fire protection up to EI2 120, burglary resistance up to RC5, bullet resistance up to FB7 and are resistant to pressure waves. The doors prevent the penetration of high water and radiation, are airtight and highly heat and sound insulating.
The wealth of experience and the high level of innovation enable SOMMER time and again to combine the sometimes very contradictory demands of design and security.
