The factory district (Werksviertel) in the east of Munich has developed into a hip, mixed-use office district in recent years. It blends old and new with a mix of historic factory buildings and contrasting modern structures. PATRIZIA AG (project developer) acquired the MK7 property in the factory district in December 2020. It has been known since June 2021 that this project has been leased to the chemical company Wacker Chemie on a long-term basis. Wacker Chemie AG, which operates 26 production sites in Europe, Asia and America and employs around 14,300 people worldwide, intends to use the MK7 property as its corporate headquarters.

During a factory tour in November 2021, representatives of the project developer PATRIZIA and the later user Wacker Chemie informed us that they attach great importance to sustainability and that the project will receive LEED platinum status, the highest level of sustainability certification, upon completion. From that moment on, it was clear to SOMMER that this would only be possible with a high percentage of recycling, for example by using Hydro CIRCAL 75R aluminium.
For the project MK7 - Werksviertel Munich we were able to order 117 tons of aluminium in Hydro CIRCAL 75R and thus save approx. 515 tons of CO2 compared to primary aluminium in the European consumption mix.
On Friday, September 16th, 2022, during our SOMMERfest, we received the certificate from WICONA.
